Enshrouded has recently teased its next major update, titled Wake of the Water, with a new trailer revealed during Gamescom 2025. The upcoming content drop is set to arrive in October 2025, bringing long-awaited water features and physics that promise to transform the survival experience.
From Early Access to Fan-Favorite Survival RPG
Developed and published by Keen Games, Enshrouded first launched in Early Access in January 2024. Since then, it has become a standout survival RPG, blending crafting, base-building, exploration, and combat in the expansive open world of Embervale. Servers support up to 16 players, allowing co-op groups to explore, survive, and build together.
Keen Games has been steadily expanding the game through updates, with the full 1.0 release planned for 2026. The studio has already teased multiple gameplay improvements, and Wake of the Water seems to be one of the most ambitious updates yet.
What’s Coming in Wake of the Water
While no official patch notes were unveiled during the Gamescom showcase, the trailer highlights the central theme: water physics. Players will be able to swim across large bodies of water, potentially engage in underwater combat, and even manipulate water to reshape the environment.
One striking moment in the trailer shows a player breaking down a wall, causing water to flood a room—a mechanic that could lead to clever new survival strategies. These new physics-driven interactions mark a major step toward more dynamic gameplay in Enshrouded.
Building on Developer Promises
This update aligns with comments Keen Games made last year about expanding Enshrouded with more interactive environmental elements, including “water, traps, moving things, and new traversal methods.” Wake of the Water seems to be the first big step in that direction, setting the stage for more ambitious updates ahead.
Can the Update Revive Player Numbers?
At launch in January 2024, Enshrouded saw a massive peak of over 160,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, numbers quickly declined, with November 2024 peaking at around 40,000 players. A major content update like Wake of the Water could reignite interest in the game and bring back players eager to dive into new mechanics.
