Elden Ring Nightreign reaches 313,000 Steam players after release

FromSoftware’s latest title, Elden Ring: Nightreign, is off to a fiery start. The highly anticipated co-op action RPG reached over 300,000 concurrent players on Steam just hours after its official release on May 30, making a strong debut on Valve’s storefront.

According to SteamDB, Nightreign peaked at 313,593 concurrent players within the first two hours of launch. While this falls short of the original Elden Ring’s 950K+ launch numbers in 2022, it still propelled the new title into Steam’s top 10 most-played games, an impressive feat for a spin-off with roguelike mechanics.

A Bold Evolution of the Elden Ring Formula

Elden Ring: Nightreign builds upon the award-winning Soulsborne formula FromSoftware perfected in the base game. This new installment leans heavily into co-op gameplay and roguelike design, offering fresh challenges for returning players and newcomers alike.

The game was first revealed at The Game Awards 2024, generating massive buzz with its trailer. It later became Steam’s most wishlisted title ahead of its May 30 launch—a clear indicator of strong player interest.

PC Launch Sees Immediate Success

Despite not being a full sequel, Nightreign’s PC debut has been a standout. The 300K+ player count shortly after launch shows a strong PC presence, even as console performance is still coming into focus.

“It’s a brilliant blend of Soulsborne tension and roguelike intensity. The co-op system is seamless, and the replayability is phenomenal,” noted early player reviews on Steam.

While the game hasn’t yet surfaced on Xbox’s “Top Sellers” or PlayStation’s “Best Sellers” charts, those rankings refresh periodically, so it’s still early to gauge console traction.

What Makes Nightreign Different?

  • 4-player co-op mechanics with dynamic synergy systems

  • Procedurally influenced dungeons that change with each run

  • Expanded lore and new enemies grounded in the world of the Erdtree

  • Tougher boss fights and adaptive AI mechanics

This evolution makes Nightreign feel more than just an expansion—it’s an ambitious reimagining of what a Soulslike experience can be in multiplayer form.

If early Steam numbers are anything to go by, Nightreign is poised to become one of 2025’s most successful expansions. With updates and patches already planned by FromSoftware, fans can expect ongoing support and content enhancements in the coming weeks.
