Funcom’s Dune: Awakening is proving to be one of the biggest PC gaming hits of 2025. Just five days after its early access release, the survival MMO has already peaked at 175,569 concurrent players on Steam, according to data from SteamDB. That puts the game at #7 on the list of most-played games on Steam, beating out major titles like Stellar Blade.
But the player count isn’t the only impressive metric.
Dune: Awakening Steam Sales Nearing 1 Million Copies
Using sales estimation platforms like VG Insights, Gamalytic, and PlayTracker, current estimates suggest Dune: Awakening has sold around 788,000 copies on PC as of June 15. However, the real number may be significantly higher.
A recent GameDiscoverCo study shows that most high-profile Steam launches have a concurrent user-to-sales ratio between 8 and 12. Based on its 175,000 peak concurrent users, Dune: Awakening could have already sold around 1.4 million copies, or at least be well on track to surpass 1 million within its launch month.
Beating the Competition on Steam
Currently ranked #3 on Steam’s Top Sellers list, Dune: Awakening has outperformed massive launches like Stellar Blade, making it PlayStation’s biggest-ever PC release. Only Counter-Strike 2 and PUBG: Battlegrounds currently hold higher revenue rankings on Valve’s storefront.
A Breakout MMO in the Making
Set on the harsh desert planet of Arrakis, Dune: Awakening blends open-world survival mechanics with massive-scale PvP and deep lore integration. Players must harvest spice, survive sandworms, and navigate shifting political alliances in a persistent online world. Its early success suggests that Funcom may have finally found the perfect formula for a Dune MMO that resonates with modern players.
With more content updates promised and strong word-of-mouth fueling ongoing growth, Dune: Awakening could become one of the defining PC releases of 2025.
