Dune: Awakening players are reporting that some of their items are going missing after the game’s August 13 update, and developer Funcom has acknowledged the problem. However, the suggested workaround has sparked frustration in the community, as many consider it an inconvenient and player-unfriendly fix.
Declining Player Sentiment
Launched on PC on June 10, Dune: Awakening saw a strong start on Steam with over 189,000 concurrent players in its opening week. The game’s early momentum earned it a “Mostly Positive” rating, with 74% overall approval from fans.
But in recent weeks, enthusiasm has cooled. Only 56% of reviews from the past 30 days have been positive, and peak player counts have dropped to under 37,000. The latest inventory bug has only added to growing discontent within the community.
The Item Loss Bug
The problem arises when players travel between sections of the Deep Desert or transition to other maps. A resource bug is reportedly causing items to disappear from player inventories, affecting crucial materials and progress.
Funcom addressed the issue through an in-game alert, noting that a hotfix update is scheduled for August 14. Until then, the development team has provided players with a workaround — but it’s not sitting well with fans.
The Workaround That Sparked Backlash
According to the official alert and community reports, players can avoid the bug by waiting up to 10 minutes after filling their vehicles’ inventories before traveling. While this precaution is intended to prevent item loss until the hotfix arrives, players are criticizing the method for wasting time and stalling gameplay.
On Reddit, several fans have argued that waiting around after harvesting Spice undermines the survival MMO experience. Others have stated that they would rather avoid playing altogether until the bug is fixed.
Looking Ahead
Although Funcom plans to patch the issue quickly, the suggested workaround has already damaged player confidence. With numbers already declining, the studio faces an uphill battle to restore trust and stabilize Dune: Awakening’s community.
For now, players are stuck with the choice of waiting out the bug or taking the risk of losing valuable resources.
