Fans eagerly awaiting Dune: Awakening on console will have to be patient a while longer. Developer Funcom has officially confirmed that the game won’t arrive on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S until 2026. While the news may be disappointing for some, the studio assures that progress is steadily being made on both versions.
🌍 From Arrakis to PC: A Strong Start
Set in the unforgiving desert world of Arrakis, Dune: Awakening blends survival mechanics, MMO gameplay, and rich sci-fi lore inspired by Frank Herbert’s legendary novels. Initially targeting a May 20, 2025 release, Funcom delayed the PC launch slightly to June 10 to run one final closed beta test.
That final beta phase pulled an impressive 38,000 concurrent players, despite being limited to pre-order access. Following that, early access for Deluxe and Ultimate Edition buyers saw a major surge, with over 93,000 concurrent players in just hours—clear signs that the game had serious momentum.
Now that the PC version has officially launched (source), fans are turning their attention to the console timeline.
🎮 Console Versions in Development for 2026
In a recent press release, Funcom announced that PlayStation and Xbox versions are in full development, with a broad 2026 release window. Although no specific date or quarter has been revealed, this at least confirms that the console editions remain a top priority.
“Our goal is to deliver the same immersive experience across all platforms,” the developers stated, reinforcing their commitment to a polished and unified launch.
🐍 First DLC – Wildlife of Arrakis – Already Live
Alongside the PC launch, Funcom released its first DLC, Wildlife of Arrakis, as part of the Season Pass. The pack introduces base-building decorations based on iconic desert creatures, including:
-
The colossal Sandworm
-
The flying Chiroptera
-
The towering Kulon
-
And a statue of Muad’Dib himself
This early content drop hints at Funcom’s long-term support plans, which should extend into the console lifecycle as well.
While the wait until 2026 might feel long for console players, the successful PC launch of Dune: Awakening is a strong indicator of what’s to come. With ongoing development, DLC rollouts, and growing community interest, the console versions are shaping up to deliver a robust MMO survival experience in the vast sands of Arrakis.
Stay tuned for more details as Funcom narrows down the release window and shares additional content updates.
