Behaviour Interactive has finally implemented a change that Dead by Daylight players have been requesting for years. As of August 13, 2025, joining a custom lobby in Dead by Daylight now requires the host’s manual approval, ensuring better control and security during matches.
A Long-Requested Feature Becomes Reality
The new lobby approval feature means that whenever a player tries to join a custom match, the host will receive a pop-up notification. From there, the host can choose to either approve or deny entry. This applies to all custom lobbies, even when playing with friends, giving hosts more control over who can enter their game.
This feature was first highlighted by community reporter Dvveet on Twitter (X), who shared screenshots of how the system works. Fans quickly praised the change, noting it was something the community had requested since the early days of the game.
Why Now? The Walking Dead Stream Incident
The timing of this update is notable. Just two days before the feature rolled out, Behaviour Interactive hosted a Dead by Daylight x The Walking Dead livestream event featuring content creators and actor Chandler Riggs. Unfortunately, the broadcast was disrupted by a DDoS attack and technical issues, leaving fans frustrated.
On August 12, Behaviour Interactive issued a public apology and promised to listen more closely to player feedback. Only one day later, the lobby approval system went live, showing that the studio is making tangible improvements based on community concerns.
Patch 9.1.2 Follows the Lobby Update
The day after the lobby approval feature was introduced, Behaviour Interactive released Patch 9.1.2 across all platforms. The patch followed up on the earlier 9.1.1 bugfix update and brought several notable changes, including:
-
Fog Vial adjustments: Now limited to two charges, while The Singularity Killer can teleport to Survivors inside its fog.
-
Bug fixes and balance tweaks: Addressing performance and skill-related issues.
-
Return of 2v8 mode: Set to come back on August 19 at 11:00 AM Eastern, with a new “Play While You Wait” feature.
What’s Next for Dead by Daylight?
Between the long-awaited custom lobby approval system and the steady pace of patches, Behaviour Interactive is showing its commitment to refining Dead by Daylight in 2025. With the 2v8 mode returning soon and continued balance adjustments, fans are hopeful that more quality-of-life features will be added in the future.
For now, players are celebrating that one of their most-requested features is finally in the game.
