A mysterious new character joining Danganronpa 2×2 has finally been revealed. Named Sakutaro Higashi, the new student will play a prominent role in the game’s original scenario featured in Slayhem Mode. While he is confirmed to be one of the students caught in Monokuma’s deadly Killing Game, his true Ultimate talent remains undisclosed, adding another layer of mystery to his character.
Sakutaro Higashi will be voiced by Natsuki Hanae in the Japanese version, while Griffin Burns will provide his English voice. Both actors are known for their work across numerous anime and video game projects, making Sakutaro another notable addition to the remake’s expanded cast.
Built around Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, Danganronpa 2×2 is a full remake that introduces a completely new storyline alongside the original game. The remake uses the same setting and characters as its predecessor, but a different incident leads the students of Hope’s Peak Academy into an entirely new sequence of murder cases.
Players will encounter new victims, culprits, and murder tricks throughout the alternate scenario. At the same time, the original Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair story will also be included, featuring updated visuals, improved presentation, and various quality-of-life enhancements.
The core gameplay continues to revolve around investigation and Class Trials. Each chapter is divided into three major phases: Daily Life, Investigation, and Class Trial. During Daily Life, players can explore Jabberwock Island and interact with the Ultimate Students. Once a murder takes place, the Investigation phase allows players to examine crime scenes, question characters, and gather evidence.
That evidence becomes crucial during Class Trials, where players use Truth Bullets to challenge contradictory statements and uncover the identity of the Blackened responsible for the murder. The trials will also feature full voice acting from the game’s cast.
Danganronpa 2×2 is scheduled to launch on January 14, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
