COVER Corporation Officially Announces Shutdown of Holoearth Service

COVER Corporation has officially announced that the metaverse platform Holoearth will permanently shut down on June 28, 2026 at 21:00 JST.

The announcement was delivered through the official Holoearth website and social media accounts after the company stated that it had carefully considered the long-term future and sustainability of the project.

As part of the shutdown process, sales of Premium HoloCoin were immediately discontinued starting May 14, 2026. In addition, sales of official premium items and user-created items will gradually end beginning June 3, ahead of the platform’s final closure at the end of June.

In a separate financial report, COVER Corporation also revealed a special loss of approximately 3.19 billion yen, which is roughly equivalent to $21.5–22 million USD, related to the impairment of software assets connected to the Holoearth project.

Meanwhile, refund requests for unused Premium HoloCoin and Creator Points are scheduled to be available between June 29 and September 30, 2026.

The announcement quickly became a major topic among fans of hololive production and followers of the Holoearth project, especially since the platform had originally been positioned as one of COVER’s ambitious long-term metaverse initiatives.

Since its reveal, Holoearth aimed to combine virtual social interaction, live entertainment, concerts, and user-created content within a shared online world connected to hololive’s expanding virtual ecosystem.

Despite the project’s ambitious vision, many fans had noticed slower development momentum and limited large-scale expansion over recent months, leading to speculation regarding the platform’s future even before the official shutdown announcement.

The closure now marks the end of one of COVER’s largest experimental projects outside of traditional VTuber streaming and music activities.
