After more than a decade of silence, Call of Juarez may finally be returning. According to a new report by Insider Gaming, Techland — best known for its Dying Light series — is working on a brand-new entry in the long-dormant Western-themed FPS franchise.
Once a hidden gem during the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 era, Call of Juarez earned praise for its gritty gunplay and unique Wild West setting. The series launched in 2006 and saw four entries through 2013, with the last being Call of Juarez: Gunslinger. Since then, the franchise had remained in limbo — until now.
🔄 A Comeback Years in the Making
In 2018, Techland regained the rights to the Call of Juarez IP from Ubisoft, sparking early speculation of a potential revival. Now, it seems those hopes were well-founded. While details are still scarce, the report claims the new title has been in development for some time and is being built using Unreal Engine 5 — a shift from Techland’s aging in-house Chrome Engine, which powered all previous entries.
This move could bring Call of Juarez into the modern era with stunning visuals, improved lighting, and large-scale environments made possible by UE5’s powerful toolset.
⚔️ Amid Layoffs and Cancellations, a Glimmer of Hope
Techland’s rumored revival comes at a turbulent time for the gaming industry. The studio recently canceled two unannounced projects, one of which was reportedly a Star Wars-inspired fantasy RPG codenamed Project Cornerstone. While the second canceled title remains unnamed, sources confirm that development on the new Call of Juarez game is still active.
It’s not all doom and gloom for the studio — Dying Light: The Beast, a standalone follow-up to Dying Light 2, is set to release later this summer. But it’s the return of Call of Juarez that’s likely to excite longtime fans most.
🧭 What’s Next for the Franchise?
While Techland hasn’t officially confirmed the project, the report has sparked anticipation across social media. Fans are hopeful for:
-
A return to the storytelling flair of Gunslinger
-
Enhanced gunplay and duel mechanics
-
An open-world or semi-open-world structure
-
Potential multiplayer or co-op features
🎮 A New Western Frontier Awaits
With modern tech at its disposal and a nostalgic fanbase ready to saddle up once more, Techland has the perfect opportunity to reintroduce Call of Juarez to a new generation. If the rumors are true, we may not have to wait much longer to see the West come alive again.
