Following the successful remaster of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, Argonaut Software is looking at another cult Nintendo 64 title for a potential revival: Buck Bumble. First released in 1998 as a Nintendo 64-exclusive 3D shooter, Buck Bumble combined quirky premise with fast-paced action, earning it a niche following despite limited mainstream success.
Now, with retro revivals gaining traction in the industry, Argonaut is hinting at giving Buck Bumble the same treatment Croc just received.
A Forgotten Classic Ready to Buzz Again
In an interview with MCV Develop (via VGC), Argonaut co-CEO Mike Arkin and studio founder Jez San shared their hopes to remaster Buck Bumble in the future. Though no timeline or confirmation was given, Arkin said, “Buck Bumble will also have his day in the sun, eventually.”
That statement alone was enough to stir excitement in fans of the retro shooter.
Originally developed by Argonaut and published by Ubisoft, Buck Bumble stood out in 1998 thanks to its unusual protagonist—an armed bumblebee navigating a post-apocalyptic London—and its unique blend of aerial combat and third-person shooting mechanics.
Why Now Is the Right Time for a Buck Bumble Revival
The gaming landscape is currently welcoming a wave of successful remasters, with titles like Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, and Croc enjoying a second life. The renewed interest in nostalgic IPs makes this the perfect moment to bring Buck Bumble back—especially considering it’s still locked to the N64 with no ports to modern platforms.
A Buck Bumble Nintendo 64 remaster would introduce the cult title to a new generation while satisfying longtime fans hungry for its return.
From Croc to Bumble: Argonaut’s Comeback Trail
With Croc: Legend of the Gobbos recently re-released for modern systems, Argonaut has proven its ability to successfully modernize retro classics. If Buck Bumble follows, it would mark the first time the character ever appeared outside the Nintendo 64 ecosystem—something that could dramatically increase the game’s reach and legacy.
Although Ubisoft originally published the game, Argonaut holds a strong historical connection, making them the ideal team to lead a faithful yet modernized adaptation.
While nothing is confirmed yet, the mere mention of a potential Buck Bumble remake by Argonaut leadership shows how deeply fans’ nostalgia resonates in today’s industry. As more beloved games from the ’90s receive new life, Buck Bumble could very well be the next forgotten hero to return and take flight.
