The long-forgotten Bloodborne live-action movie adaptation is reportedly still in development, according to a recent update from trusted film insider DanielRPK. Though news surrounding the project had been quiet since 2023, this fresh report has rekindled excitement among fans—and reignited conversations about the perfect director for the gothic horror adaptation.

Originally launched in 2015 as a PlayStation 4 exclusive, Bloodborne is an action RPG developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony. Set in the haunting, Victorian-inspired city of Yharnam, the game follows a mysterious Hunter who must battle grotesque enemies infected by a horrific blood-borne plague.

A Cult Classic Still in Demand

Fans of the genre-defining “soulslike” title have long been begging for more Bloodborne content. Whether it’s a long-awaited PC port, a PS5 remaster with 60fps support, or a true sequel, the game’s loyal community hasn’t let the IP fade from memory. However, due to its multiple ambiguous endings, many believe a sequel might need to feature a new protagonist entirely—making a live-action adaptation an enticing alternative for expanding the universe.

Insider Confirms Movie Is Still Alive

DanielRPK, a well-known source of entertainment industry leaks, recently revealed that the Bloodborne movie is still in the works. As reported by Twitter account ScreenTime, the production is actively seeking a director to helm the project.

Originally revealed to be in development back in 2023, this update brings hope to fans who feared the adaptation had been shelved. Now, attention has turned to who should guide the project—and the answer seems unanimous among the fanbase.

Guillermo del Toro: The Fan Favorite

Fans are rallying behind Guillermo del Toro to direct the Bloodborne film. Known for his signature gothic fantasy style, del Toro’s previous works—including Pan’s Labyrinth, The Shape of Water, and Hellboy 2: The Golden Army—make him an ideal fit for the nightmarish aesthetic of Yharnam.

“Del Toro lives and breathes this kind of world,” one fan wrote on social media. “If anyone can do Bloodborne justice, it’s him.”

Del Toro has also dabbled in the video game world before, collaborating with Hideo Kojima on the ill-fated Silent Hills project, further solidifying his credibility among horror and gaming fans alike.

Other Directors on the Wishlist

While del Toro remains the top choice, fans have floated other interesting names for the director’s chair:

  • Robert Eggers (The Lighthouse, Nosferatu) for his mastery of atmospheric dread

  • Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House) for his ability to balance emotion and horror

  • Christopher Nolan (yes, Inception’s own) as a wild-card pick for his storytelling prowess and visual ambition

What’s Next for Bloodborne?

As of now, Sony has not issued any official statement confirming the status or timeline of the project. However, with the recent report from DanielRPK and renewed fan enthusiasm, the gears may finally be turning again on a Bloodborne cinematic experience.

Whether or not del Toro takes the reins, one thing is certain: fans are ready to return to Yharnam—this time, on the big screen.
