Battlefield 6 second open beta gameplay with players facing matchmaking and server issues

The second open beta weekend for Battlefield 6 is officially live, and it’s already off to a massive start. Within its first hour, the highly anticipated Battlefield 6 Second Open Beta surged in player count, reaching over 274,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the excitement hasn’t come without problems, as many fans are reporting a wide range of issues with the playtest.

Battlefield 6 Breaks Records with First Beta

The first open beta weekend for Battlefield 6 was a major success for EA and DICE. The playtest soared past the all-time concurrent player peak of Call of Duty HQ (which includes Black Ops 6, Warzone, and more) on Steam. While Call of Duty’s historic peak sat just above 491,000 concurrent players, Battlefield 6 smashed that record with 521,000 concurrent players on August 9, only two days into its first beta.

This accomplishment cemented Battlefield 6 as one of the most played games on Steam during its testing phase, giving EA a major victory in the ongoing FPS rivalry.

Weekend 2 Faces Growing Pains

With the second open beta weekend now underway, excitement remains high. The Steam player count has already surpassed 274,000 concurrent players, and that number continues to climb. Unfortunately, the beta has also brought a host of technical issues that are frustrating many fans.

According to reports from players and outlets like Battlefield Bulletin on X, common issues include:

  • Long matchmaking times preventing quick entry into games.

  • Error messages when attempting to join playlists.

  • Party system problems, making it difficult for friends to squad up.

  • Missing DLSS / DLAA settings on PC.

  • General performance hiccups and random bugs.

Previous Problems Resurface

This isn’t the first time players have faced unusual problems during the beta period. During Weekend 1, some users reported that Battlefield 6’s anti-cheat system forced them to uninstall Valorant before they could play. While these issues were not widespread, they highlight the unpredictable nature of large-scale beta testing.

EA and DICE Expected to Respond

With nearly 300,000 players trying to log in on just one platform, matchmaking bottlenecks are to be expected. EA and DICE are likely already working on fixes, but players will be watching closely to see how quickly the developers can stabilize the second open beta.

Despite the setbacks, excitement for Battlefield 6 remains sky-high. If DICE can iron out these issues before launch, the game has the potential to become one of the most successful entries in the franchise’s history.
