Battlefield 6 is shaping up to be one of the biggest FPS releases of the year, and with its official launch set for October 10, the developers are working hard to ensure that server issues won’t get in the way of the action.
Following the game’s hugely successful open beta, excitement around the title has reached new heights. While feedback highlighted areas for improvement, the overall response from players was overwhelmingly positive, fueling expectations of a massive launch. With that in mind, Battlefield Studios is taking no chances when it comes to server stability and matchmaking performance.
Lessons Learned from the Beta
In a recent interview with ComicBook, Studio Technical Director Christian Buhl explained how the open beta provided valuable insights.
“We’ve made many adjustments to our projections thanks to the success of our open beta,” said Buhl. “All of the stuff I said about stability and performance also applies to server stability and server performance, so we’ve been putting a lot of effort into that as well.”
Behind the scenes, the team has been stress-testing servers to handle millions of players at launch. According to Buhl, these simulations often “break” at first — but that’s part of the process.
“We add machines, we optimize systems, and we keep repeating until we hit the numbers we feel confident we need to hit for launch.”
What About Server Queues?
When it comes to the dreaded server queues, Buhl acknowledged that they exist as a fallback tool but emphasized that the team’s priority is to avoid them entirely.
“We’re always going to have that as a tool, but we are planning on not needing it for launch. We have projections and we’re preparing for more than our projections to make sure as much as possible, we don’t have to have server queues.”
A Smoother Battlefield Awaits
By setting server capacity caps much higher than anticipated demand, Battlefield 6 aims to deliver a seamless multiplayer experience from day one. If successful, players can look forward to spending less time waiting and more time on the battlefield.
With launch day rapidly approaching, EA and DICE’s careful preparation shows a clear commitment to making Battlefield 6 a standout release in the FPS genre.
