PlayStation has unexpectedly shut down the online services for Assetto Corsa on the PlayStation 4, catching fans off guard and raising questions about the racing simulation’s future on other platforms.
Originally launched in 2014 on PC, Assetto Corsa made its debut on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016, with a later release on iOS. Developed by Italian studio Kunos Simulazioni, the game has earned acclaim for its realistic driving physics, accessible gameplay, and a dedicated community. Despite newer entries offering improved physics, Assetto Corsa’s modest system requirements and loyal fanbase have kept it relevant long past the typical lifespan of similar racing titles.
The shutdown was first revealed through a delisted games watch thread on PSNProfiles. A user known as HuntingFever shared that the PS4 servers for Assetto Corsa were closed or broke down between mid-May and early June of 2025. This was quickly confirmed by multiple users who reported that “servers are down,” “preset lobbies disappeared,” and online matchmaking was no longer available. Interestingly, the Korean version of the game was still reported online as of June 3, suggesting regional discrepancies in server availability.
This sudden closure leaves the Assetto Corsa PS4 community without official online multiplayer, although offline modes remain playable. Fans now wonder whether similar shutdowns will affect Xbox One, PC, or iOS versions, and if any alternative solutions like private servers might arise.
The situation highlights challenges faced by aging multiplayer games as server maintenance costs and player numbers decline. For Assetto Corsa enthusiasts, staying tuned to official announcements and community forums will be essential as the future of the game’s online support unfolds.
