Ubisoft has announced a significant shift in its game development strategy, emphasizing open world and live service games as the core of its future projects. This move aims to capitalize on the growing demand for expansive, immersive worlds and continuous content updates.
With successful franchises like Assassin’s Creed already embracing open world mechanics, Ubisoft plans to expand this approach across more of its IPs. Additionally, live service games such as The Division and Rainbow Six Siege have proven to be lucrative, prompting the company to invest further in this model.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot added, “We have been investing significantly for a big pipeline of products for the coming years along our two verticals, [these] being open-world action adventure as well as ‘Game as a Service’-native experiences. And that’s what we want to deliver year after year.” He also announced that Anno 117: Pax Romana will arrive next year, along with The Division: Resurgence on mobile. “All this is coming along well. We haven’t provided more color for FY 2026 but we’ll have more to share by the time of May, and as I’ve just said, we have a strong platform for the future years across these two verticals,” Guillemot concluded. “Our goal is to create worlds that players can immerse themselves in for years,” stated Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft. “Live service elements allow us to keep these worlds alive and evolving.”
Upcoming titles, including Assassin’s Creed Infinity, promise to deliver dynamic, ever-evolving experiences that keep players engaged through regular updates and new content. While some fans express concern about potential monetization strategies, Ubisoft assures that quality and player satisfaction remain top priorities.
