Code Violet, an upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive dinosaur horror game, has officially been delayed after its release date clashed with one of the biggest shooters of the year, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Originally scheduled to launch on November 14, 2025 — the same day as Activision’s blockbuster title — developer and publisher TeamKill Media has now confirmed that Code Violet will instead arrive on *December 12, 2025.
The studio explained that releasing the game alongside Call of Duty would have been “impossible” from a marketing perspective. With Black Ops 7 expected to dominate sales and player attention during its launch window, TeamKill Media decided it was better to delay the horror title rather than risk being overshadowed.
Inspired by Dino Crisis
Fans of Capcom’s long-dormant Dino Crisis series will likely want to keep their eyes on Code Violet. TeamKill Media has described the project as a spiritual successor to the cult-classic survival horror franchise. Set in the 25th century, the story follows protagonist Violet Sinclair, a woman abducted from her time by the Aion colony, which seeks to save humanity from sterility by using women from the past as surrogates.
Players can expect a mix of futuristic environments, terrifying encounters with dinosaurs, and a grim narrative described as both “dark” and “desperate.”
Why the Delay Makes Sense
Back in July, TeamKill Media announced the original November 14 release date for Code Violet, before Activision revealed that Black Ops 7 would be launching on the same day. Facing what it considered unwinnable competition, the studio shifted the release to December.
Though the delay is disappointing for eager fans, the extra time won’t go to waste. TeamKill Media confirmed it will use the additional month to enhance character models, optimize performance, and polish the game’s overall presentation. As a bonus, players who pick up the game at launch will also receive two exclusive Christmas-themed outfits.
No PC Release Planned
When asked about a possible PC launch, TeamKill Media stood firm on its decision to keep Code Violet a PlayStation 5 exclusive. Earlier this year, the studio said it does not want to risk modders creating vulgar content that could harm the integrity of the game’s artistic vision or disrespect its voice actors.
Stay tuned with us while the decision sparked backlash from some PC players who argued the move could impact sales, TeamKill Media appears resolute. For now, PS5 owners will be the only ones able to experience the return of dinosaur horror when Code Violet finally launches in December.
