Pokémon Legends: Z-A has revealed that Mega Hawlucha will be joining its roster, marking the first time the Fighting/Flying-type wrestling bird has received its own Mega Evolution. The fan-favorite battle mechanic originally debuted in Pokémon X and Y, and with Pokémon Legends: Z-A returning to the Kalos region this October, a wave of new Mega Evolution reveals is building anticipation for the upcoming title.

Mega Evolution Returns in Kalos

Mega Evolution temporarily boosts a Pokémon’s stats and sometimes changes its typing, making it a powerful gameplay mechanic. With Pokémon Legends: Z-A, this system looks to be a central theme, with developers teasing more than two dozen new Mega Evolutions. Mega Hawlucha is the latest addition to a growing list that has already included Mega Dragonite and Mega Victreebel.

The Mega Hawlucha Showcase

The reveal came in a four-minute animation shared on Pokémon’s official Twitter/X. The trailer shows Hawlucha facing off against Machamp inside a wrestling ring, their trainers shouting instructions from ringside. Despite Machamp’s early advantage, Hawlucha Mega Evolves with the help of its trainer’s Mega Bracelet.

Sporting a sparkling gold-and-black mask and a dazzling shoulder piece reminiscent of a championship cape, Mega Hawlucha no-sells Machamp’s attack before finishing the battle with its signature Flying Press.

A Tease That Delivered

The reveal had been teased earlier in the week when Pokémon posted an animated fight poster promoting the Hawlucha vs. Machamp match. Fans speculated this would lead to a new Mega Evolution reveal, though many were unsure whether Hawlucha or Machamp would receive it. With no Mega Machamp confirmed, it was Hawlucha who ultimately stole the spotlight.

Previous Mega Evolution Reveals

Mega Hawlucha follows July’s Mega Dragonite reveal, which surprised fans with its massive angelic wing design, and last week’s unveiling of Mega Victreebel, which sparked discussion for its eerie yet creative reimagining. While both of those Pokémon originated from Gen 1, Mega Hawlucha represents a fresh addition for later generations.

Release Date and Platforms

Pokémon Legends: Z-A launches worldwide on October 16, 2025, for both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. With more Mega Evolution reveals expected before release, fans can look forward to an exciting buildup in the months ahead.
