Hollow Knight composer Christopher Larkin will author the score for Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, publisher 11 Bit Studios has announced. His fresh musical direction marks a tonal shift from the original game, aligning with the sequel’s brighter and livelier setting.

Originally revealed in December 2024, Moonlighter 2 expands on its 2018 predecessor’s mix of dungeon-crawling and shopkeeping. This time, players will guide protagonist Will through the remote village of Tresna, where town-building mechanics, enhanced visuals, and expanded gameplay systems await. The sequel also doubles down on roguelike elements, offering more replayability than ever.

Ahead of its October 23, 2025 early access launch, 11 Bit Studios confirmed that Larkin composed the game’s original soundtrack. Known for Hollow Knight’s hauntingly beautiful music, the Australian composer is now experimenting with a hybrid style for Moonlighter 2.

“Moonlighter 2’s soundtrack is adventurous—just like Will’s journey,” Larkin explained in a statement. “From folk to electronic soundscapes to industrial metal, the music mirrors the unfamiliar, ever-shifting world he explores.”

Spanish developer Digital Sun Games collaborated closely with Larkin to ensure the soundtrack complements the game’s vivid environments. DSG Creative Co-Director Victor Ribera described the result as “an experience that feels cohesive, rich, and deeply immersive.”

Moonlighter 2 marks Larkin’s eighth video game project, following work on Pac-Man 256, Expand, Hacknet, Outfolded, Hollow Knight, TOHU, and the upcoming Hollow Knight: Silksong.

While initially targeting Q3 2025, the game’s release date has shifted to October 23, 2025, launching first in early access on PC via Steam and as a day-one title on PC Game Pass through Microsoft’s Game Preview program. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are in development, though not included in early access.

During its early access phase, Moonlighter 2 will grow with community-driven updates, including new environments, bosses, loot, NPCs, quests, shop system upgrades, and quality-of-life improvements.

With its enhanced roguelike systems, expanded mechanics, and a soundtrack from one of indie gaming’s most celebrated composers, Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is shaping up to be one of 2025’s standout releases.
