Wuthering Waves version 3.2 introduced a rhythm-themed event titled “Soar to the Beat,” which ran from March 19 until April 29. Although the event had already been available for some time, criticism only recently gained momentum after growing complaints from rhythm game fans online.
Players began accusing the event of heavily resembling mechanics from the Invector: Rhythm Galaxy series, particularly AVICII Invector. The controversy intensified after fans reportedly reached out to Hello There Games, the original developer behind the Invector games.
In response, Hello There Games stated that Kuro Games had not obtained any license or official permission to use the gameplay concept. The studio reportedly described the similarities as “striking” and expressed disappointment regarding what they viewed as unauthorized use of their work.
At the same time, the developers also thanked community members for bringing the issue to their attention, which further fueled discussion across social media and gaming forums.
Fans pointing out the similarities specifically highlighted:
- futuristic rhythm lane visuals
- lane-switching gameplay mechanics
- overall track presentation
- and interface similarities resembling the Invector series
Because of this, the debate quickly expanded beyond simple gameplay inspiration and turned into a broader discussion regarding originality in live-service game events.
Supporters of Wuthering Waves argue that rhythm mini-games inspired by existing genres have become common across the gaming industry, especially for limited-time events in gacha titles. Others, however, believe the similarities are too direct to ignore, particularly after the public response from Hello There Games.
The controversy has also reignited conversations about how modern live-service games frequently borrow ideas from other genres in order to keep temporary content fresh and engaging for players.
