Square Enix has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 port of FF 7 Remake Intergrade will run at 30 frames per second (FPS) when it launches this upcoming winter. The news was shared on the official Final Fantasy VII Twitter account, ending weeks of speculation about whether the remake would target higher performance on Nintendo’s next-generation console.
The Switch 2 port of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade was first announced back in the spring, before the console had even hit store shelves. Square Enix has since promised that all three entries in the FF 7 Remake trilogy will eventually arrive on Switch 2, ensuring fans can experience Cloud and company’s full journey on Nintendo hardware.
Switch 2’s Power Raised Expectations
Since its release in June, the Nintendo Switch 2 has quickly become the hottest console on the market, launching with Mario Kart World and following up with Donkey Kong Bananza, a title already being discussed as a Game of the Year 2025 contender.
What has really captured players’ attention, however, is the Switch 2’s significant leap in hardware power. The console can run Cyberpunk 2077 at 40 FPS and scale less demanding titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom up to 60 FPS. These impressive benchmarks led many fans to hope that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade would also take advantage of the hardware to achieve a higher frame rate.
Square Enix Sets Expectations at 30 FPS
In a tweet (Final Fantasy VII official account), Square Enix confirmed that the remake will be locked at 30 FPS on Switch 2. The publisher assured fans that they would still enjoy “crisp visuals” despite the capped performance.
While many players welcomed the official confirmation, others expressed disappointment in the comments, noting that a linear RPG like FF7 Remake should be easier to optimize than sprawling open-world games such as Cyberpunk 2077.
Could a Future Patch Unlock Higher Performance?
Given the Switch 2’s capabilities, some fans remain hopeful that Square Enix might release a performance update down the line. A potential 40 or even 60 FPS patch could bridge the gap between player expectations and the game’s current limitations.
For now, though, Switch 2 owners can look forward to experiencing Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade with stable visuals and performance when it arrives this winter, marking another major step for third-party AAA games on Nintendo’s next-generation platform.
