Microsoft has decided to hold off on announcing the ROG Xbox Ally’s price until some point “in the coming weeks,” after officially confirming its release date. Fans and leakers had speculated about a portable Xbox system long before Microsoft’s confirmation, and now the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X have a firm release window and specs—but the pricing remains a mystery.
At the start of Gamescom 2025, Microsoft and ASUS confirmed that both handhelds will launch on October 16, 2025, aligning with prior rumors. Attendees at the convention can try out the devices starting August 20, giving gamers their first hands-on experience. While the release date is now official, several details about the ROG Xbox Ally line—including pricing—remain uncertain.
Macroeconomic Impact Delays Pricing
Speaking to IGN at Gamescom, representatives from Microsoft and ASUS explained the delay: the companies need “more time to figure out the macroeconomic impact” of the current environment on the handhelds’ pricing. As a result, the consoles are not yet open for pre-order, even though early leaks suggested pre-orders would start on August 20, coinciding with the release date announcement.
Previous leaks indicated that the ROG Xbox Ally X would sell for €899 (~$1,050 USD) and the ROG Xbox Ally for €599 (~$700 USD). However, with Microsoft and ASUS reviewing the effects of macroeconomic conditions on pricing, these figures may change. Given recent price increases on other Xbox hardware and games due to economic factors, a higher cost for the new handhelds is possible.
What Gamers Can Expect
The ROG Xbox Ally line is designed to deliver console-level gaming in a portable format, supporting popular platforms like Xbox Game Pass. While the price remains unannounced, gamers now know the release date, availability, and specs, and can look forward to trying the devices at Gamescom.
Microsoft and ASUS have emphasized that the price announcement will come in the coming weeks, so fans should stay tuned for updates ahead of the October 16 launch.
