Lords of the Fallen 2 cinematic reveal trailer from Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025

Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 played host to the long-awaited reveal of Lords of the Fallen 2, the direct sequel to CI Games’ 2023 Soulslike reboot. While the 2023 release reimagined the original 2014 game, this new entry is pushing the story forward, retaining the dual-realm world design that made the reboot stand out.

The reveal comes just under two years after the reboot’s launch, signaling CI Games’ confidence in the franchise’s momentum and fan support.

Indeks

The Reveal Trailer: Darkness, Gore, and 2026 Release

During Geoff Keighley’s live stage presentation, CI Games debuted a two-minute cinematic trailer for Lords of the Fallen 2 (watch here). The trailer highlights:

  • The franchise’s signature dark, gritty fantasy world.

  • Brutal combat with visceral gore.

  • Ominous new threats that expand on the lore of Mournstead.

The trailer closed with confirmation of a 2026 release window. Lords of the Fallen 2 will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC at launch.

Soulslike Competition in 2026

2026 is shaping up to be a landmark year for Soulslike fans. Alongside Lords of the Fallen 2, two other major contenders are scheduled for release:

  • Mortal Shell 2 – Cold Symmetry and Playstack’s sequel, revealed during Summer Game Fest 2025, with a brutal and visually stunning trailer.

  • The Duskbloods – FromSoftware’s brand-new IP, exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, blending Bloodborne-style aesthetics with a strong focus on online multiplayer.

Just as in 2023, Lords of the Fallen 2 will have to compete for attention in a crowded Soulslike market. However, its unique dual-realm gameplay and the narrative foundation built by the reboot may give it the edge it needs.

Why Fans Are Excited

The 2023 reboot received mixed but steadily improving reception as CI Games delivered patches, updates, and expansions post-launch. By moving forward with a sequel so soon, the studio is signaling its long-term investment in the franchise.

If CI Games can refine co-op mechanics, deliver a more polished launch, and expand on the world’s lore, Lords of the Fallen 2 has the potential to become a major Soulslike competitor in 2026.
