The state of Louisiana has officially filed a lawsuit against Roblox Corporation, accusing the massively popular gaming platform of failing to protect children from predatory behavior. This legal action comes during a turbulent period for Roblox, which currently hosts over 80 million daily active users, with a significant portion of its audience made up of children and pre-teens.

Indeks

Roblox’s Massive Reach — and Its Risks

Roblox allows users to create, share, and play games, with many even able to earn money from their creations. Its free-to-play model and user-friendly rating system have made it particularly appealing to younger players. In fact, over 40% of Roblox’s audience consists of pre-teens, with 56% under the age of 16.

However, this popularity has also drawn the attention of predators. Critics argue Roblox has failed to enforce effective monitoring, leaving kids vulnerable to grooming and exploitation. The issue has grown so concerning that Chris Hansen of “To Catch a Predator” is rumored to be producing a documentary investigating Roblox’s shortcomings in protecting children.

Louisiana’s Lawsuit Against Roblox

On August 14, 2025, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill filed a child protection lawsuit against Roblox (official filing here). The lawsuit accuses Roblox of “permitting and perpetuating an online environment in which child predators thrive.”

The filing highlights several alarming gaps in Roblox’s safety measures:

  • No minimum age requirement to join.

  • No mandatory parental permission for minors.

  • No reliable age verification system.

According to the lawsuit, Roblox CEO David Baszucki has even encouraged game development geared toward adults, creating what Louisiana officials describe as a “willingness to compromise safety” and an online ecosystem where predators can flourish.

The filing bluntly describes Roblox as:

“…an environment rife with neglect, where harmful content flourishes, predators thrive, and Defendant repeatedly fails to act even in the face of widespread and urgent warnings.”

Real-World Consequences: Families Taking Legal Action

The lawsuit is not the first legal challenge Roblox faces regarding child safety. In July 2025, a family from Des Moines, Iowa, filed a lawsuit after their 13-year-old daughter was abducted and assaulted by a man she met on Roblox.

The girl had been playing Roblox since she was eight years old, with her parents initially trusting the platform as a safe online environment. Tragically, the “child” she was chatting with was revealed to be 37-year-old Martin Amaya Sandoval, who already faced statutory assault charges in another state.

Broader Implications

Louisiana’s lawsuit could have nationwide consequences. If successful, it may force Roblox—and potentially other online platforms popular with children—to introduce stricter safety measures, parental controls, and real age verification.

Meanwhile, the lawsuit has shaken investor confidence, with Roblox’s stock already showing signs of decline as public scrutiny intensifies.
