Tekken 8 has been one of the most successful fighting games of recent years, and now there’s growing speculation about whether it could arrive on Nintendo’s latest hardware. In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Tekken series director Katsuhiro Harada addressed the possibility of a Tekken 8 Nintendo Switch 2 port—though fans shouldn’t get too excited just yet.
Harada Speaks on Switch 2 Possibility
When asked about Tekken 8 coming to Switch 2, Harada explained that the idea is “an interesting option, and not totally off the table.” He went on to note that from a business perspective, it would make sense for Bandai Namco to expand Tekken 8’s audience. However, he also admitted that the process would be technically challenging, making it “not a very easy decision” for the development team.
This means that while a Switch 2 port isn’t confirmed, Harada has left the door open for the possibility.
Tekken 8’s Success So Far
Released in 2024, Tekken 8 has already sold over 3 million copies worldwide, surpassing early expectations. The game is already outpacing its predecessor, Tekken 7, which went on to sell more than 12 million copies over nearly a decade. With this strong momentum, Bandai Namco could further grow Tekken 8’s user base by expanding to additional platforms like the Switch 2.
Why Switch 2 Could Be a Good Fit
The Nintendo Switch 2 has been a massive success, selling over 6 million units within two months of launch. Its early first-party titles, such as Mario Kart World, have dominated sales charts, with the racing game already hitting 5.53 million units worldwide.
Meanwhile, fighting games have also found success on the system. Street Fighter 6 launched for Switch 2 earlier this year and quickly reached 5 million global sales across platforms. This shows there’s clear demand for competitive fighting games on Nintendo’s new hardware—something Bandai Namco may take into account.
No Official Announcement Yet
As of now, Bandai Namco has not confirmed Tekken 8 for Switch 2. Harada’s comments suggest the idea is still under consideration, but no decision has been made. With the Switch 2’s rapid growth and the proven popularity of fighting games on the platform, the possibility remains alive.
For fans hoping to see Tekken 8 on Switch 2, patience will be key. With big gaming events like Tokyo Game Show and future Nintendo Directs ahead, it’s possible more news could surface soon.
