Lords of the Fallen 2 will be fully unveiled at the upcoming Gamescom Opening Night Live, publisher CI Games has officially confirmed. The sequel to 2023’s Lords of the Fallen has been building anticipation since its announcement in 2024 and may well become one of the most talked-about reveals of Gamescom 2025.
A Legacy of Reboots and Revivals
The franchise’s history has been turbulent. The original Lords of the Fallen debuted in 2014, earning immediate comparisons to FromSoftware’s Dark Souls while still managing to cultivate a loyal fanbase. Plans for a sequel went through multiple developmental resets until the project was soft-rebooted as Lords of the Fallen (2023), set over a thousand years after the first game.
That reboot proved successful, surpassing 5.5 million players by July 2025 and cementing the series as a rising star in the soulslike genre. Earlier this year, the PlayStation 5 version even enjoyed renewed interest thanks to the Lords of the Fallen 2.0 patch, which delivered significant gameplay and performance improvements.
Gamescom 2025 Reveal Date Confirmed
CI Games CEO Marek Tyminski recently confirmed on Twitter (source) that Lords of the Fallen 2 will be revealed in full during Gamescom Opening Night Live on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 2:00 PM ET / 11:00 AM PT / 20:00 CEST.
This aligns with CI Games’ earlier promise of a “strong marketing campaign” throughout 2025, designed to broaden the game’s appeal with more commercially-minded visual design while still retaining the dark, gothic soul of the series.
What We Know About Lords of the Fallen 2
Though technically the third entry in the franchise, Lords of the Fallen 2 is being positioned as a bigger, more accessible follow-up with several new features:
-
Engine & Visuals: Built on Unreal Engine 5 for next-gen immersion.
-
Release Window: Currently targeting 2026.
-
New Modes & Systems: Additional game modes, refined mechanics, and a full shared-progression system for co-op alongside the single-player campaign.
-
Platforms: Launching on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
-
PC Exclusivity: At launch, it will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store, skipping Steam.
Why This Matters
With the success of the 2023 reboot, expectations for Lords of the Fallen 2 are higher than ever. The promise of expanded co-op systems, technical upgrades, and a more polished gameplay loop suggests CI Games and developer Hexworks are aiming to secure a lasting place in the crowded soulslike market.
All eyes will be on Gamescom 2025 to see if the studio can deliver on that ambition.
