After months of speculation and rumors, Horror Inc. has officially confirmed that a sequel to the 2017 Friday the 13th video game is currently in development. The announcement came directly from the company’s Executive Vice President, Robbie Barsamian, during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 (via Bloody Disgusting), signaling a major new chapter in the Jason Voorhees legacy.
Barsamian revealed that the new game is being developed under the Jason Universe multimedia banner, a project that aims to expand the Friday the 13th IP across several entertainment platforms. This initiative, first teased in 2024, includes collaborations with Victor Miller, the original screenwriter of the 1980 film that started it all.
“It’s where most of our energy’s going right now,” Barsamian said at SDCC. “We’re working on a sequel to the game and a new film simultaneously—they’re both in the works and coming.”
The announcement follows a wave of renewed interest in the franchise, sparked by a May 2025 licensing deal that hinted at fresh video game developments. That rumor is now confirmed, though Barsamian emphasized that a full reveal, including development partners, is still to come.
The original 2017 title, Friday the 13th: The Game, developed by IllFonic and Gun Media, garnered a cult following for its asymmetrical multiplayer gameplay, pitting counselors against a player-controlled Jason. However, licensing issues eventually led to the game being pulled from digital storefronts.
This new installment promises to breathe fresh life into the horror series, especially now that Horror Inc. appears to have resolved the rights disputes that previously held the franchise back.
While no release window has been announced, fans can expect more details in the coming months, as Jason Universe ramps up development across multiple mediums.
