Surgent Studios, the team behind Tales of Kenzera: Zau, has announced that their upcoming psychological horror game, Dead Take, will be released on July 31, 2025. Revealed only weeks ago, the game has already captivated horror fans with its unsettling atmosphere, inventive gameplay, and deeply personal story.
Set to launch for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, Dead Take follows players as they explore a lavish yet haunting mansion in search of missing actor Vinny Monroe. What begins as a search party soon descends into a disturbing spiral of fame, fear, and fractured identity.
🎬 A Hollywood Nightmare
Described as a twisty blend of escape room-inspired puzzles and video-splicing gameplay, Dead Take puts players in control of an unnamed protagonist unraveling both a mystery and the manipulation at the heart of the entertainment industry. The story draws inspiration from creative director Abubakar Salim’s own experience as an actor, delving into the darker side of ambition and celebrity.
“It’s a game about the high of ambition and the rot underneath it,” Salim said. “The lies we tell ourselves to get in the spotlight—and the monsters we become to stay there.”
