A new report has revealed that Build A Rocket Boy, the studio behind the recently released action-adventure game MindsEye, has been hit with a wave of layoffs following the game’s catastrophic launch earlier this month.
According to a report from IGN, more than 100 employees are at risk of redundancy as the company initiates a formal 45-day consultation process in line with UK labor laws. The news comes as a serious blow to the studio, which employs around 300 staff in the UK and another 200 globally.
The layoffs are reportedly tied to the commercial and critical failure of MindsEye, which has been heavily criticized for its overwhelming number of bugs, poor framerate on current-gen hardware, and lack of polish expected from a AAA title. The game has quickly earned the unfortunate title of 2025’s worst-reviewed release, with player backlash spreading across social media and gaming forums.
Founded in 2018 by former Rockstar Games president and Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies, Build A Rocket Boy gained early attention for its ambitious MMO-like platform Everywhere. However, since the disappointing launch of MindsEye, speculation has grown around the future of both titles—and the studio itself.
While the company has not yet released an official statement addressing the layoffs, sources within the studio suggest the situation is serious, with staff reportedly being informed of the redundancy process on June 23.
This news adds to a growing list of studios affected by layoffs in 2025, a year already marked by turbulence across the gaming industry. Fans are now left wondering if MindsEye will ever see the post-launch fixes it desperately needs—or if the game’s failure has doomed the studio’s long-term prospects.
