The Gears of War: Reloaded multiplayer beta, which officially launched on June 13, is off to a rocky start — and fans are not happy. While the remaster of the original Gears of War was met with excitement, especially due to its debut on PlayStation 5, major issues in the beta are leaving players unable to enjoy the experience.

🚨 Connectivity Issues Plague the Beta

Multiple players have reported that they can’t even connect to matches. According to Gears of War’s official community account, the team is “investigating reported matchmaking problems,” but many users are still stuck on loading screens or repeatedly disconnected during matchmaking.

Some fans have taken to Reddit to vent their frustration. One user said the experience gave them “Halo: MCC launch flashbacks”, referring to the disastrous launch of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Another user jokingly renamed the title to Gears of War: Loading, highlighting just how widespread the connection issues are.

“Spent 20 minutes in matchmaking only to be booted. Twice,” one Redditor shared. “At this point, I’m just watching my console heat up.”

⚔️ Hit Registration and Gameplay Bugs

Even for those who do manage to get into a game, the problems don’t end there. Hit registration issues are also being widely reported, leading to situations where point-blank shots fail to register. That’s particularly frustrating in a game where every split-second matters in close-quarters combat.

Some players have even uploaded gameplay clips showing delayed kills, unresponsive weapons, and teleporting enemies. While this is still a beta, these problems are painting a poor first impression for what’s supposed to be a high-profile remaster.

🔁 A Surprising Yet Historic Launch

Announced in early May 2025, Gears of War: Reloaded is a 4K/120 FPS remake of the original Gears of War. While some had hoped for a full trilogy remaster, the news was still big — especially because this marks the first-ever release of a Gears game on PlayStation. With that level of anticipation, many expected a smoother beta launch.

🛠️ What’s Next?

The Coalition has not provided a detailed roadmap for fixes yet, but with the community voicing concerns across Twitter, Reddit, and forums, a patch may be in the works. Still, the lack of immediate communication has only amplified frustrations.

Betas are designed to find bugs — but in the case of Gears of War: Reloaded, they’ve found too many. Between connection issues, gameplay bugs, and underwhelming performance, the remaster is off to a shaky start. Hopefully, The Coalition can reload this experience before it completely backfires.
