Hideki Kamiya, the legendary game director behind RE2, has revealed his interest in reviving Capcom’s long-dormant Dino Crisis franchise — news that has thrilled fans who have been waiting more than two decades for a comeback.
In a recent interview on The MinnMax Show on YouTube, Kamiya was asked about which Capcom IP he’d be interested in directing. While he ruled out returning to Resident Evil, his response to Dino Crisis was much more enthusiastic.
“I’d love to give it a shot,” Kamiya said, igniting fresh hope among longtime fans of the dinosaur-themed survival horror series.
Originally directed by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, Dino Crisis debuted in 1999 and quickly developed a cult following. The game’s tense atmosphere, intricate puzzles, and action-packed encounters with intelligent dinosaurs made it a standout. The first game alone sold over 2.4 million copies and received widespread critical acclaim.
Despite spawning two sequels and a few spin-offs, Dino Crisis has been dormant since the release of Dino Crisis 3 in 2003. Over the years, fans have consistently called for a reboot or remake, with occasional rumors surfacing — including speculation around a potential Dino Crisis 4 in 2014 — but no official projects have come to fruition.
Hideki Kamiya, whose resume also includes iconic titles like Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Bayonetta, and Okami, could bring a unique creative edge to any Dino Crisis revival. With Capcom’s recent success remaking Resident Evil titles using its RE Engine, now might be the perfect time to breathe new life into the prehistoric horror franchise.
While Capcom has not confirmed any development, Kamiya’s public interest adds fuel to the fire — and fans everywhere are ready to return to Ibis Island for another encounter with deadly dinosaurs.
