The anime adaptation of Red Riding Hood: A Detective Story (Akazukin, Tabi no Tochuu de Shitai to Deau) has officially announced its premiere window. The series is scheduled to begin broadcasting in January 2027, with the production team also unveiling a new preview and visual ahead of its debut.
The anime is being produced by BENTEN FILM and will combine comedy, fantasy, and mystery. Instead of presenting the familiar fairy tale exactly as audiences know it, the series takes the classic story of Little Red Riding Hood and turns it into a murder mystery filled with unexpected twists.
The original fairy tale follows Little Red Riding Hood as she travels through the forest to deliver cakes and wine. However, this time, her journey takes a much darker turn when she unexpectedly discovers a dead body along the way.
What begins as a strange discovery soon develops into a much larger mystery. As Little Red Riding Hood investigates the circumstances surrounding the incident, she encounters familiar characters from other classic fairy tales.
Characters from stories such as Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, and Sleeping Beauty will become involved in the unfolding mystery. Their appearances introduce new clues, unusual situations, and unexpected tricks that challenge Little Red Riding Hood’s ability to uncover the truth.
The anime’s premise combines the recognizable elements of classic European fairy tales with a detective narrative, creating a setting where familiar characters can take on very different roles. Rather than simply following the traditional story, Red Riding Hood: A Detective Story places its protagonist at the center of a mystery that connects multiple fairy tales.
The production team has described the project as the beginning of a new kind of detective character, with Little Red Riding Hood taking on the role of an investigator as she attempts to solve the case.
With its combination of mystery, fantasy, and comedy, the series could offer a fresh interpretation of characters that audiences have known for generations. More information about the cast, broadcast schedule, and story is expected to be revealed ahead of the anime’s January 2027 premiere.
