Xbox Games Dominate PS5 Charts

Sony has revealed the most downloaded games on PlayStation 5 for April 2025—and in a remarkable twist, Xbox-published titles have claimed the top positions, signaling a dramatic shift in the gaming landscape.

Three major Xbox first-party games launched on PS5 in April, and all three surged into the top 20 downloads of the month. This comes as part of Microsoft’s broader multiplatform strategy that began gaining traction in early 2024. And it’s not just about showing up—these games are thriving.

Xbox Games Take Over the PS5 Storefront

Leading the charge is The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which debuted near the end of April yet still topped the US and Canada charts for paid PS5 downloads. Its late-month release didn’t stop it from outperforming even Minecraft, another Microsoft-owned juggernaut, which settled for second place.

Not far behind, Forza Horizon 5, developed by Playground Games, made a stunning entry by ranking third in North America and clinching first place in Europe—despite launching on April 29, just one day before the month ended.

These numbers are impressive on their own, but even more so when viewed as part of a trend. Microsoft’s multiplatform pivot is bearing fruit, with April’s download charts echoing similar success from May 2024, when Sea of Thieves was the most downloaded PS5 game.

Top Xbox-Published Games on PS5 in April 2025

  • Oblivion Remastered – #1 in US/Canada, #2 in Europe

  • Forza Horizon 5 – #1 in Europe, #3 in US/Canada

  • Minecraft – #2 in both major markets

  • Additional Xbox titles in the top 20 further cement Microsoft’s presence

A Growing Trend in the Console Wars

Sony’s monthly PlayStation Store charts—released via the official PlayStation Blog—are typically a showcase for PlayStation exclusives. However, the growing presence of Xbox-published games signals a new era of platform-neutral success. As Microsoft continues to bring more of its beloved franchises to rival consoles, the traditional console war narrative is evolving into one of content supremacy over hardware loyalty.

Gamers win in this new model, with access to high-quality games across more platforms. And if April 2025 is any indication, Xbox isn’t just participating in the PS5 ecosystem—it’s dominating it.
