The WRC video game franchise has found a new home just weeks after Electronic Arts (EA) ended its involvement with the long-running rally racing series. French publisher Nacon has stepped in to reclaim the rights, securing a fresh deal to develop and publish official WRC titles from 2027 to 2032.

EA Bows Out of the Rally Scene

EA’s brief tenure with the WRC license began with EA Sports WRC in 2023, developed by its subsidiary Codemasters. Despite strong fan interest, five seasons of post-launch content, and two paid DLCs, EA officially announced it would discontinue development, signaling the end of its chapter with the franchise.

The decision was part of broader strategic shifts at EA, leaving the future of WRC Games uncertain—until now.

Nacon Returns to Familiar Terrain

Just weeks later, Nacon, a name already familiar to WRC fans, has signed a new publishing agreement with WRC Promoter. From 2013 to 2022, Nacon published several official WRC titles and now returns with a long-term vision. The deal also gives Nacon the exclusive rights to esports competitions under the WRC brand, reigniting hopes for a more competitive and connected rally gaming ecosystem.

Nacon’s portfolio already includes respected motorsport titles such as Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown and MXGP 24, reinforcing its position as a key player in the genre.

Full Reboot Coming in 2027

The most exciting part of the announcement? Nacon is planning a complete reboot of the WRC game franchise. The first title under this new agreement is expected in 2027, with development starting soon. While details are still under wraps, Nacon has expressed a strong commitment to delivering a refreshed and innovative rally racing experience that appeals to both loyal fans and newcomers.

What’s Next for Rally Racing Fans?

While the wait until 2027 may seem long, fans are optimistic about Nacon’s return. The reboot promises to redefine WRC gameplay and potentially reinvigorate the rally esports scene. For now, the WRC gaming community will have to stay tuned for updates, sneak peeks, and dev blogs as the new era of rally racing begins its countdown.
