The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, marking Nintendo’s next-generation home console and handheld hybrid, coming eight years after the original Switch. Pre-orders have already sold out, with additional stock expected to vanish quickly as the holiday season approaches.
The Switch 2 brings a powerful upgrade — boasting enhanced hardware capable of running more demanding games with improved frame rates and resolution. Nintendo is pricing the console at $449.99 for the base model and $499.99 for a bundle that includes the new Mario Kart World game, reflecting its premium performance.
Despite the excitement, some retail workers have raised concerns about the Switch 2’s packaging potentially confusing customers. Shared widely on social media and discussed in gaming outlets like Polygon, these workers note that the Switch 2’s packaging closely resembles the original Switch OLED’s box. Both come in predominantly red boxes, and while the Switch 2 box is slightly shorter and features a new logo alongside an image of the console, the overall look is very similar.
This similarity could cause confusion among shoppers—especially parents or less-informed buyers—leading to accidental purchases of the older Switch model instead of the new Switch 2.
As retail workers prepare for launch day, these packaging concerns highlight a potential issue Nintendo and retailers may want to address to ensure a smoother shopping experience and avoid customer frustration.
