Japanese comic publisher Shogakukan has officially confirmed the release date for the highly anticipated Pokémon Ecology Encyclopedia, titled “Pokecology.” The book is set to hit shelves on June 18, 2025, offering fans a detailed, science-based look at the Pokémon universe like never before.

While Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have published several companion books in the past, many were outsourced to third-party publishers and often focused on basic stats and colorful—but average—illustrations. This upcoming hardcover edition represents a more ambitious and academic project.

According to Famitsu, Pokecology will act as an ecological index, featuring detailed entries on over 1,000 Pokémon. The book will cover the behavior, interactions, habitats, and social structures of Pokémon species, interpreted through the lens of real-world ecology.

🧠 Led by a Professional Ecologist

The encyclopedia is overseen by Yoshinari Yonehara, a professional ecologist known for his scientific work in wildlife observation and analysis. Yonehara’s goal with Pokecology is to observe, analyze, and interpret the daily lives of wild Pokémon, mirroring methods used in actual field biology.

Key highlights of the book include:

  • In-depth profiles of Pokémon and their ecosystems

  • Behavioral comparisons and interactions among species

  • An exploration of Pokémon social rules and community structures

  • Illustrated habitat guides showing natural environments

  • A total of 192 pages, all curated for accuracy and educational value

📚 Availability and Price

The Pokémon Ecology Encyclopedia is priced at ¥1,430 (approx. $10 USD) and is currently available for pre-order at major Japanese retailers, including Amazon Japan. No English release has been announced yet, but international fans are eagerly watching for localization news.

🌍 A New Chapter for Pokémon Books

With Pokecology, it’s clear that Nintendo, Creatures Inc., and Game Freak are looking to expand the Pokémon IP into more educational and narrative-rich territory, giving fans of all ages a reason to dive deeper into the Pokémon world.

Whether you’re a Pokémon trainer, student, or nature enthusiast, this book brings the fantasy world of Pokémon a little closer to our own reality—one fascinating page at a time.
