Available on Xbox and PC Game Pass, Bethesda’s iconic RPG has found new life among returning fans and first-time players alike. But despite the attention and nostalgia, one fact is impossible to ignore — almost nobody is finishing the main quest.
According to Xbox achievement tracking site TrueAchievements, only 7% of players have completed the main storyline — a shockingly low number for a central game feature.
Why Are Players Skipping the Story?
The numbers are clear: most Oblivion Remastered players simply aren’t interested in completing the core campaign. While Oblivion’s main quest isn’t particularly long or difficult, players abandon it almost immediately after leaving the tutorial sewers. Here’s why:
1. Total Freedom From the Start
Once the tutorial ends, Oblivion gives players full control of their journey. Whether it’s joining guilds, exploring Daedric shrines, or diving into side quests, the game offers more compelling activities outside the main quest.
2. Main Quest Fatigue
Many players — especially returning fans — have already played the main story years ago. They now prefer to explore new content or replay the game in different ways, such as roleplaying or using heavy mod integration.
3. Mod-Driven Distractions
The remastered version has opened the door for visual overhauls and gameplay-enhancing mods. Some mods even introduce alternate narratives, completely replacing the need to engage with the original storyline.
4. Achievement Statistics Don’t Lie
Only 2% of tracked players have earned all 60 achievements. This signals that even hardcore completionists are focusing on everything except the main story arc.
