Nintendo’s highly anticipated Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, 2025, but a recent survey suggests the company may be facing challenges meeting demand in Japan, one of its key markets.

The Switch 2 pre-orders opened on April 9 across multiple regions, including Japan. Prior to the pre-order period, Nintendo executives assured fans that production would be sufficient to fulfill initial demand. However, many consumers quickly reported difficulty securing a console, signaling potential supply constraints.

A revealing survey conducted by the popular Nintendo-focused Twitter account @2021nZelda, which gathered over 31,000 responses within a single day, highlights this issue. As observed by NintendoSoup, the poll found that as of May 30 — just one week before the Switch 2’s official release — only 32.7% of Japanese respondents had successfully pre-ordered the console. Meanwhile, 59.8% said they were unable to secure a pre-order, and 7.5% remained undecided.

These figures underscore the growing concern that Nintendo might be struggling to keep up with demand in Japan, potentially due to supply chain challenges or manufacturing delays.

With the launch date rapidly approaching, Nintendo faces pressure to address this shortfall to satisfy eager fans and avoid frustrating the market. The Switch 2’s success in Japan will be a critical factor in its overall global performance and Nintendo’s continued leadership in the gaming industry.
