Switch 2 Launch Delayed Across CA and the Caribbean Until 2026

Nintendo Switch 2 delay announcement affecting Central America and Caribbean regions

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will not be launching in Central America or the Caribbean in 2025, according to a new report from Costa Rican outlet Teletica, with confirmation later shared by Nintendo Wire. The delay marks a significant setback for gamers in these regions, many of whom have been eagerly awaiting the release of Nintendo’s next-gen console.

High Demand Meets Regional Limitations

The Switch 2 has already sparked global excitement, with pre-orders opening earlier this month and selling out in several territories. But while most of the world is preparing for a June 5, 2025 launch, Nintendo has decided to postpone the console’s release across Central America and the Caribbean.

The decision reportedly stems from limited infrastructure in the region, particularly the absence of a localized Nintendo eShop. Without a reliable digital storefront, Nintendo has classified the market as currently too small to justify a full product launch.

“Nintendo hasn’t allocated any stock of the Switch 2 for Central America,” Teletica reports, adding that sales are not expected to begin until 2026 at the earliest.

Past and Present Launch Challenges

This isn’t the first time Nintendo has staggered its console rollout. In early April 2025, the company postponed the Switch 2 launch in China to better assess market demand—mirroring a similar strategy from the original Switch’s launch over eight years ago.

In North America and Canada, pre-orders were even briefly delayed due to recent tariff changes, showcasing the broad ripple effect global economics and infrastructure can have on gaming hardware availability.

What This Means for Gamers in the Region

Gamers in Central America and the Caribbean will face the tough choice of importing the console or waiting until Nintendo provides regional support. Importing, however, could come with higher costs and limited access to digital services, as without the Nintendo eShop, users may struggle to access updates, downloadable content, or online features.

As of now, Nintendo has not provided an official timeline for when the Switch 2 might become available in these regions. Fans are encouraged to stay updated through official Nintendo channels and regional retailers.
