GTA 5 celebrates 215 million copies sold milestone in 2025

More than a decade after its original release, Grand Theft Auto V continues to dominate the gaming landscape. According to the May 2025 financial report from Take-Two Interactive, GTA 5 has now officially surpassed 215 million copies sold, solidifying its position as one of the best-selling and most profitable video games in history.

Earlier this year in February, Take-Two reported GTA 5 sales had reached 210 million units, with an astonishing five million copies sold in a single quarter. Now, just a few months later, that number has climbed again—another five million copies sold, showing that interest in Rockstar’s juggernaut has yet to wane.

Released back in 2013, GTA 5 has managed to maintain momentum across three console generations, thanks in part to the enduring popularity of GTA Online, consistent content updates, and an active global community. Its success is not just measured in units either—the game became the fastest entertainment property to reach $1 billion in retail sales, a feat unmatched even by blockbuster films.

While only Minecraft has sold more copies overall, GTA 5 remains the undisputed king of the past decade in both units sold and total revenue. This impressive performance continues to fuel excitement for GTA 6, which is slated for release in 2025.

As the wait for the next installment continues, GTA 5’s unmatched legacy proves that it’s not just a game—it’s a phenomenon that keeps rewriting the rules of success in the gaming industry.
