Section 9 Interactive, a newly formed studio by veteran developers behind Little Nightmares, Little Nightmares II, and LittleBigPlanet PS VITA, unveiled their first project — End of Abyss, an intense sci-fi survival horror game with a disturbing psychological edge.
A Partnership with Epic Games
Backed by Epic Games, End of Abyss was introduced with a haunting cinematic reveal trailer, now live on YouTube. The project marks a bold debut for Section 9 Interactive, blending the eerie exploration familiar to fans of Little Nightmares with dark science fiction elements and grotesque body horror.
Meet Cel – A Survivor in the Abyss
The game follows Cel, a young combat technician trapped in a derelict underground facility. As she explores the depths of a collapsed research compound, Cel must confront monstrous creatures, environmental hazards, and the unsettling realization that nothing around her is human. With no allies and no clear answers, players will guide her on a desperate journey to survive and uncover the truth.
Unique Gameplay and Upgrade Systems
While End of Abyss emphasizes the kind of atmospheric exploration that fans of Little Nightmares will find familiar, it also introduces upgradable gear, allowing Cel to adapt and engage in tense combat scenarios. Players will need to scavenge resources, learn enemy behavior, and modify their equipment to survive twisted encounters and unpredictable dangers lurking in every shadow.
Inspired by Dark Sci-Fi
Drawing influence from the darker corners of science fiction, the game echoes the psychological tension of SOMA and Event Horizon while bringing its own unique, intimate horror experience. The eerie environments and spine-chilling sound design, powered by Unreal Engine 5, promise a visually and emotionally immersive survival journey.
Coming in 2026
End of Abyss is currently in development and is set for release in 2026 on PC (via Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A playable demo is rumored to arrive later this year, offering a first hands-on glimpse of the game’s nightmarish world.
