FromSoftware has officially lifted the veil on new character classes for the highly anticipated Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition. Unveiled during a Nintendo Direct event, this edition is set to debut alongside the next-gen Nintendo Switch 2 and includes fresh content that’s more than just a simple port.

🛡️ Meet the New Knights: Ides Knight & Heavy Knight

According to a Famitsu Japan report, two new classes—tentatively named Ides Knight and Heavy Knight—will debut in Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition. Both are heavily inspired by traditional medieval armor but cater to different playstyles:

  • Ides Knight – A swift, lightly armored class built for agility and precision. Early concept art suggests a sleek design ideal for dexterity builds.

  • Heavy Knight – A tankier, more resilient class with full plate armor, likely ideal for strength-based combat and high defense strategies.

Each class appears to have two visual variants, giving players aesthetic customization right from the start.

🎮 Not Just a Port: Switch 2 Enhancements & New Features

Unlike a standard re-release, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will feature new content, including the much-requested Torrent customization option. This long-awaited feature finally allows players to tweak the appearance of their loyal mount—adding an exciting new layer to personal immersion in the game’s world.

⚔️ A Shake-Up for Class Selection

The base game features ten core classes—such as the popular Vagabond, Samurai, and Astrologer—which have remained unchanged even after the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The introduction of new classes marks the first major update to the class system since launch, refreshing the way players can approach builds and gameplay.

🗓️ Release Outlook and Platform

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is slated to arrive in late 2025, launching on the Nintendo Switch 2 and other platforms. This release is shaping up to be more than just a technical adaptation—it’s a bold step toward enriching the Elden Ring universe.

With the reveal of the Elden Ring Tarnished Edition new knight classes, FromSoftware continues to push boundaries for the Soulslike genre. Whether you’re a returning Tarnished or a first-time player joining via Switch 2, this edition promises a fresh take on the journey through the Lands Between.
