Just weeks after the critically acclaimed launch of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the team at Sandfall Interactive has already begun laying the groundwork for their next ambitious title.
In a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, François Meurisse, COO and producer at Sandfall, confirmed the studio’s intent to develop a follow-up to Expedition 33. “There will be another video game, for sure,” Meurisse revealed, while holding back specific details. However, he did tease that Guillaume Broche, the director behind Expedition 33, already has “great ideas” forming for what’s coming next.
A Monumental Success Story
Released in April 2025, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 quickly became a global hit, garnering a 92% score on OpenCritic and selling 500,000 units in its first 24 hours. Set in a visually stunning dark fantasy Belle Époque world, the turn-based RPG was praised for its unique combat, powerful narrative, and breathtaking art direction.
Even more remarkable, the game achieved 3.3 million sales in just 33 weeks—a symbolic achievement that mirrors the expedition number in its title. Among its many accolades, the game even caught the attention of French President Emmanuel Macron, who publicly celebrated the game’s cultural and artistic achievement.
What’s Next for Sandfall?
While details on the next project remain under wraps, the success of Expedition 33 has undeniably raised expectations. Meurisse acknowledged that the follow-up game will be a “challenge,” particularly given the high bar now set for the studio’s future titles. In the meantime, fans can enjoy new content from the Monolith Set—a collection of Collector’s Edition-themed items—now available at a reduced price, adding even more excitement to the Expedition 33 universe.
Sandfall Interactive has proven itself to be one of the most exciting emerging studios in narrative RPGs. With “great ideas” already brewing, their next title is shaping up to be another unforgettable journey.
