Love and Deepspace Cancels Valko as New Love Interest Following Community Backlash

Love and Deepspace developer Papergames (Infold Games) has officially canceled the introduction of Valko as the game’s sixth romanceable character following widespread criticism from the Chinese player community.

Valko was originally revealed as the next male lead in the popular sci-fi romance game, a decision that quickly sparked intense debate among fans. Shortly after the announcement, many players voiced their dissatisfaction across social media platforms, arguing that the new character did not align with their expectations for the game’s future direction.

The controversy rapidly escalated. The game’s official social media accounts reportedly experienced a significant decline in followers, while discussion threads related to Valko accumulated millions of interactions. Players also organized offline protests to express their concerns, making the issue one of the biggest community controversies in the game’s history.

As the backlash continued to grow, reports also emerged of inappropriate incidents targeting the developer’s office, including claims that animal waste had been sent to Papergames. While many fans criticized the company’s creative direction, others condemned these extreme actions, emphasizing that disagreements should remain respectful and not cross into harassment.

Papergames responded by releasing a public statement addressing player concerns. The company apologized for the situation and announced that Valko would no longer be introduced as a new love interest. According to the developer, future updates will once again focus on expanding the stories and content of the game’s existing five male leads.

Despite the cancellation, the studio confirmed that other features planned for Version 6.0 will continue as scheduled. These include the Home 2.0 system, an AR Photobooth, additional quality-of-life improvements, and various in-game events. To thank players for their continued support and apologize for the controversy, the development team will also distribute 30 Deepspace Wishes as compensation alongside other free rewards.

The decision marks one of the most significant changes made in response to community feedback since the game’s launch. While the controversy surrounding Valko has come to an end, discussions within the community remain active as players look ahead to the future of Love and Deepspace and the content planned for upcoming updates.
