A major leak controversy has reportedly hit Forza Horizon 6 after reports claimed that a near-final build of the game began spreading online more than a week ahead of its official launch on May 19, 2026.
According to multiple community discussions and leak reports, the issue allegedly happened because the game’s preload files on Steam were uploaded without additional encryption protection. Since the preload reportedly relied only on Steam’s default DRM system, users were allegedly able to access and unpack the game files shortly after they became available around May 10.
The situation quickly escalated after leaked copies were said to be fully playable offline. This became especially controversial because the official early access period for Premium Edition buyers is not scheduled to begin until May 15, several days after the leaked version had already started circulating online.
As the reports spread across gaming forums and social media, many players expressed concerns regarding the impact the leak could have on launch sales, online progression systems, and potential spoilers involving cars, maps, or future content planned for release.
At the time of writing, Xbox Game Studios and Playground Games have not released an official public statement addressing the situation.
The incident has also reignited debates surrounding DRM protection in modern PC gaming. Many users online are once again discussing solutions such as Denuvo, with some arguing that Steam’s standard DRM protection is no longer strong enough to prevent early piracy and preload exploitation for high-profile releases.
On the other hand, critics of stronger DRM systems continue to argue that additional anti-tamper software can negatively affect game performance and customer experience, making the topic highly divisive within the PC gaming community.
