Astrae Oratio Reveals New Combat Details and Characters at Tokyo Game Show 2026

Dynamis One and NC, formerly known as NCSoft, have shared new information about Astrae Oratio during a media presentation at Tokyo Game Show 2026. Director Jong gyu Lim and art director In Kim discussed the game’s concept, combat mechanics, story, and upcoming closed beta test before answering questions from Japanese and Korean media.

The developers describe Astrae Oratio as a “shindenki,” or “new denki,” RPG. The term refers to a setting where supernatural elements exist alongside ordinary modern life. The game takes place in a fictional version of Tokyo and revolves around the concept of “magic meets bureaucracy.” Players take on the role of a government official responsible for overseeing the city’s magicians.

Although the game is being developed by a South Korean studio, Astrae Oratio will feature full Japanese voice acting. The player character will also have a visible appearance in the game. During the presentation, the team showcased a new prologue trailer introducing the Other Cabinet, a mysterious enemy faction.

Combat in Astrae Oratio focuses on one-on-one encounters despite players forming teams of three characters. Enemies attack individually during group battles, while color-coded indicators warn players about incoming attacks. Blue attacks can be countered with normal attacks, yellow attacks require well-timed guards, and red attacks cannot be blocked and force players to switch characters.

Successfully countering an attack gives the turn back to the player. Weaker enemies display upcoming attacks on a timeline, while stronger opponents hide this information, requiring players to react more carefully.

The combat system also features Combat Skills, which consume AP and become stronger through repeated use within a turn. Players can combine these with powerful Ultimate Skills to create attack chains. Lim explained that the combat design draws inspiration from fighting games such as Street Fighter. Another mechanic, Declaration of Dominion, will provide an advantage to the side that activates it, although additional details are being saved for the closed beta.

At launch, the team expects around 34 playable characters across approximately 10 factions, with additional factions planned for the future. The upcoming closed beta will contain roughly three to five in-game days of content.

Astrae Oratio is currently being developed for smartphones, while a PC version remains a possibility. Art director In Kim also confirmed that AI was not used to create the game’s artwork. More information is expected as the closed beta approaches.
